France’s foreign minister, Catherine Colonna, stated France’s support for Brazil’s accession to the OECD. In her words, Brazil is a relevant global actor returning to the world stage under President Lula. She added that environmental issues must be addressed appropriately, both in the OECD and in the EU–Mercosur agreement.
Brazil’s accession roadmap itself mentions the need to end deforestation and to protect the lives of Indigenous peoples and environmental defenders.
